The 60s through the 70s were an explosive period of time. A lot of things were going on politically and socially here and abroad, this including the world of fashion. Women burned their bras and men’s ties got really big! Good thing they did because skinny neckwear no longer had a place with the clothes of the day. How can you tell that you’ve got a genuine article from this tumultuous time?

When you shop for vintage clothing, you will enjoy garments of historical interest that are unique in appearance and rewarding to own. When people look for clothing, like a 50’s vintage dress, they can enjoy the quality of the fabrics that clothes were made from in years past that are no longer available.

Condition is the most important factor to consider. Look carefully for tears, holes, stains, pilling and discoloration. Most reputable resale and vintage stores won’t accept clothing that has those kinds of problems, but smaller issues may have been overlooked. Check the inside seams to see if the stitching is coming apart and definitely check underneath the lining if possible.

Being old doesn’t mean getting outdated; at least that’s how it works in the world of vintage fashion. Clothing pieces from the 1920’s to 1970’s still find a space in today’s fashion setting and are increasingly becoming more visible in modern times. But vintage clothes don’t stand only as a fashion alternative, as they are also a window to the past.
